A medium-sized parakeet with a red forehead and green body. Its three extant subspecies occupy islands around New Zealand, and the source describes their island distributions.
It has a long tail, broad rounded wings, and mainly green plumage. Red covers the forehead and fore-crown, with red patches behind the eyes, on the flanks, and near the tail base.
It eats mainly seeds, flowers, and fruit. Invertebrates are also eaten in spring before breeding, and nests are placed in hollows in trees or other cavities.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
