This small seabird breeds on islands off California and Mexico. Outside the breeding period it stays at sea, diving for small fish and crustaceans.
Adults are black above and white on the chin, throat, and belly. The white underwing is a useful way to distinguish it in flight from the similar Craveri’s Murrelet.
It breeds in natural rock crevices or burrows on steep island slopes. At sea it dives after small fish and crustaceans and is nearly always observed feeding in pairs.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
