This finch occurs in Morocco’s mountains; a localized range in Algeria’s Aurès is reported in the literature. A male specimen from Glaoui had an ashy hindneck, a rosy-white throat, and a brown rump and upper-tail coverts.
Whitaker described one male and two females collected by Dodson at Glaoui on 28 May 1897. The male had an ashen hind neck, a whitish throat tinged with rose, and brown rump and upper-tail coverts. Females had a less dark forehead and crown and no rose-tinted throat feathers.
On 18–19 May 2006, observers found at least three pairs at 2,700–3,000 m at Oukaïmeden. The birds used rugged rocky slopes with low, sparse xerophytes. One pair mated; a female in another pair hid beside a rock and a small xerophytic bush.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
