The White-bellied House Bat is widely recorded north of 5°N, while records in southern Africa are sparse. Some southern specimens may need to be checked against a close relative.
Some South African specimens have yellowish belly fur and others do not; the assessment says they need checking to distinguish this species from S. viridis.
It has been recorded in dry and moist savannas. During the day it roosts in tree holes, under bark, or in house roofs, and it may change roosts.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
