This manakin ranges from western Panama to western Colombia. At a Panamanian breeding site, males prepare small courts on the forest floor and court with wing snaps.
The male has a golden-yellow throat and collar, mostly black upperparts, and olive rump and underparts. The female is dull olive above and below.
The breeding season lasts about seven months, and males gather in leks of up to 12. Each clears a small court on the forest floor and displays for several hours a day, even when no female is present. The wings produce loud mechanical sounds.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
