This small manakin occurs in lowland forest edges and thickets on the Caribbean side of Central America. Adult males are black, white, and yellow; females and young males are olive green with yellow bellies.
Adult males have a black crown, wings, tail, and midback band, with white on much of the head, neck, breast, and upper back, an olive-green rump, and a yellow belly. Females and young males are olive green with yellow bellies.
Males perform a communal lek display, leaping between upright sticks on a cleared patch and snapping their wings. Females build the nest and care for the young alone; the birds take fruit and some insects low in the trees.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
