The Kaempfer's Tody-Tyrant was observed at several sites in Santa Catarina, southern Brazil. Its head and back range from brown to olive, while the throat and belly are pale yellow. The study describes foraging in forest edges and shaded secondary growth.
The head and face range from pale rufous-brown to brownish olive, depending on lighting and possibly feather freshness. The upperparts are dull olive-green; the throat and underparts are pale yellow to greenish-yellow, with pale cream fringes on the wings.
The study's birds were found at low forest edges, shaded secondary growth, and low open woodland near rivers. They fed among sparse canopy and midstory foliage, taking caterpillars and making short sallies after insects.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
