This small spiny mouse occurs in moist forests of the western Amazon. A ground capture was reported from flooded forest in Brazil during the rainy season.
It is small, with a tail slightly longer than the head and body. The tail is dark brown above and paler below; short hairs partly conceal the scales.
One pregnant subadult female was caught on the ground in Brazilian floodplain forest during the February rainy season. This is a single-animal record from one area.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
