The Garden Emerald occurs in southwestern Costa Rica and Panama. A breeding study documented one nest found in La Amistad International Park, Costa Rica.
Nestlings at one nest had gray throats and breasts, green backs, and pale buff feather tips. These are nestling features, not a description of adults.
At the same breeding site, the female was observed feeding fledglings.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
