The male's crown and breast shine golden green, while the female has grayish-white underparts and a different tail pattern. This small hummingbird takes nectar at forest and cloud-forest edges, in second growth, and around plantations. It is partially migratory.
The male has a shining green crown, throat, and breast, with bronzy green over much of the rest of the body. The female lacks the glittering green underparts and has black and gray markings on the outer tail feathers.
It uses open places at rainforest and cloud-forest edges, second growth, and plantations, where it takes nectar. The account gives an elevational range of about 700–1,800 m.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
