This bat is found on Hispaniola. Historical specimen records, published under an earlier subspecies name, include pregnant females captured in a cave on the island.
The 1917 description of the type specimen gives a uniformly dark-brown back, with silvery bases on the nape hairs. The underside was drab, becoming darker on the abdomen, where the hairs had dark-brown bases.
A 2003 specimen account records two females captured in Grotte de Paudin, Haiti, in July 1974; each carried one embryo.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
