This small bat lives in forests of western and central Africa. It has a dark-brown back, a lighter underside, and a long brush-tipped tongue suited to nectar feeding.
The back is dark brown and the underside is lighter brown. Its long tongue ends in a brush of papillae. Males have a stiff white or cream ruff from the sides of the neck to the throat.
It feeds mainly on nectar and probably also pollen. Visits have been recorded at Kigelia and Musa flowers, but records of its food plants are limited.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
