The Bearded Woodpecker is a large woodpecker of woodland and savanna in southern Africa. Both sexes have strongly marked faces.
Both sexes have bold black-and-white facial markings and a strong bill suited to pecking into bark.
It searches trunks and branches in savanna and woodland with tall trees, probing bark for invertebrates. Its repeated drumming can also reveal its presence.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
