The 2004 original description of the Togian Boobook was based on field records from the Togian Islands and two male specimens. It reports mainly forest habitats.
The adult male specimens in the 2004 description were brown, with pale eyebrows and white lower underparts streaked brown from the lower breast toward the vent. The eyebrows may meet above the nasal area.
The 2004 account records the owl in disturbed lowland and hill forest, mixed gardens and sago swamp. Scrubby-forest records were within a landscape retaining evergreen rainforest, and the authors considered it mainly a forest species.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
