This bird lives in the Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, and northeastern Argentina. Recently collected specimens show vivid green plumage. A study in Misiones found nests on tree ferns near the forest floor.
Recently collected specimens have vivid green plumage and a more delicate bill than other species in the genus. Specimens more than 50 years old may look browner because their color has faded.
Three nests studied in the Atlantic Forest of Misiones were cup-shaped, made from leaves and other plant fibers, and attached sideways to tree-fern stems. Epiphytes and tree-fern petioles helped conceal them.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
