The Venezuelan Troupial is a large bird with black and bright orange plumage and a long wedge-shaped tail. It lives mainly in Venezuela and northern Colombia, in dry woodland and savanna.
Adults have a black head, neck, upper breast, back, and wings, with orange underparts. An orange shoulder patch and white wing stripe are visible, and the tail is long and wedge-shaped. Juveniles are duller orange with bluish-grey skin around the eye.
It forages for insects and fruit in pairs or family groups. For breeding it uses covered stick nests built by other birds rather than building its own, sometimes driving away the residents.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
