This sunbird occurs in the western highlands of Angola. An Angola bird guide describes males with a blue rump and orange-red breast band, while females are duller and grayish.
Males have a greenish head and back, blue rump, broad orange-red breast band with a turquoise stripe, and gray belly. Females are grayer and lack the male's vivid bands.
It uses montane scrub and forest edges, often singly or in small groups around flowering trees. It takes flower nectar and also eats insects.
