The Alaska marmot is a large squirrel relative that makes burrows among rocky areas in northern Alaska. It eats grasses, flowers, and roots in summer and hibernates in its burrow in winter.
The upper head and nose are black, while the rest of the body is gray to light brown. It has a bushy tail and strong legs suited to digging.
It eats grasses, flowering plants, berries, roots, mosses, and lichens. Several animals share a large burrow system and hibernate there through winter.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
