The Bobak marmot inhabits steppes from central Europe to central Asia and spends winter in underground burrows. Its coat changes with the seasons.
It has a rounded body, short legs, and a short tail. The autumn coat ranges from straw-colored to rusty; in spring and early summer it is generally lighter from sun exposure.
It forms colonies of burrows in open grassland and feeds mainly on grasses. It hibernates underground in winter.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
