A 2026 study examined Rosy Starlings from ten populations in four regions of China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Researchers analyzed mitochondrial COI and Cytb sequences from 108 individuals to compare genetic variation within and among the sampled populations.
The study identified 62 COI haplotypes and 69 Cytb haplotypes. Most measured variation occurred within populations rather than between them. The authors reported high genetic diversity and connectivity, while also noting recent decline and geographic isolation risks for some populations. They highlighted migration routes and gene flow as conservation considerations for the sampled region.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
Researchers analyzed 108 Rosy Starlings from ten populations in four regions of Xinjiang. Most genetic variation was found within local populations, and the study found high diversity and exchange of genes among groups. It also noted recent decline and geographic isolation in some populations. The authors identify migration routes and connections between populations as important to maintain.
