Passive acoustic surveys recorded this bat at several sites in Aniana Vargas National Park, Dominican Republic. A population formerly called M. molossus verrilli was described as having long dorsal hairs with broad pale bases.
The population then treated as M. molossus verrilli was described as having long, bicolored dorsal hairs with a broad pale basal band reaching up to half the hair length.
Passive acoustic monitoring in October 2022 detected this species at four stations: Basilio Cave, low dense terra firme forest, a cacao plantation, and tall secondary vegetation.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
