This scops owl is known from around Mount Rinjani on Lombok. Researchers heard it in undisturbed forest, degraded forest, and beside quiet roads.
The crown and back are dark cinnamon brown. The breast has narrow, irregular white and dark bars; on the belly, white patches are usually limited to the basal half of the feathers, except between the legs.
During the study, calls were heard in undisturbed forest, degraded forest, and along quiet roads. The paper says the owl does not depend only on closed primary forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
