The Machu Picchu arboreal chinchilla rat was recorded by camera traps in mountain forest at Machu Picchu. The photographed animals show white facial markings and a white tail tip.
The camera-trapped animals show white patches on the face and a white distal half of the tail.
Camera records were nocturnal, with more activity from about 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. All records came from low forest positions, and this study does not establish whether the species is arboreal.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
