This bat is recorded from southeastern New Guinea in Papua New Guinea. A research thesis cites tree-hollow roost records, but population and ecological information remains limited.
Its forearm is under 54 mm in a species comparison among large-eared free-tailed bats.
It is among the New Guinea Otomops first recorded roosting in tree hollows. Details such as the size of its roosting groups are not well documented.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
