This white-eye is endemic to Makira in the Solomon Islands. Zosterops ugiensis, the candidate-pool name, is treated as an older name or synonym within Makira White-eye rather than a separate species.
It is dark olive above, with a narrow white eye-ring, grey-white throat and breast, white belly, and yellow undertail-coverts.
It is mainly a forest bird and is common in the forests of Makira. A genomic study of Solomon Islands white-eyes found rapid island differentiation as well as gene flow among some island populations.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
