The Chestnut-throated Flycatcher was described from Vanua Levu, Fiji. Its 1876 original account records forest observations, insect feeding, and differences in throat and back color between males and females.
The male is described with dark ashy-blue upperparts, a short azure crest, and a chestnut throat and upper chest. The female has rusty-gray upperparts and a dark ashy-blue crown.
The original account records the species in tall forest around the Kandi and Bua districts of Vanua Levu and reports that it fed on insects.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
