The Yellow-vented Woodpecker is a small woodpecker distributed from Venezuela through the Andes to Peru. A Colombian regional guide describes its life in mountain and secondary forest.
The crown and nape are red in males and black in females. The back is olive with reddish spotting; the belly and undertail coverts are yellow.
It forages high in the subcanopy and canopy, usually alone or in pairs and sometimes in mixed-species flocks. Its diet is mainly invertebrates, including wood-boring larvae.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
