This laughingthrush occurs in the Western Ghats of southwestern India. It moves in small groups near the ground in evergreen forest, searching for insects and plant food.
The head and back are dark slate grey, with chestnut on the wings. The throat is white and the belly is orange-rufous.
It uses evergreen and semi-evergreen forest, including wooded areas near cardamom cultivation. Small groups forage on the ground for insects, berries, and seeds.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
