This marsupial has bristles on the pads of its feet. It is recorded from arid to coastal Western Australia; a drought-season food-patch experiment in central Australia found that it preferred patches with more food.
The back is brown and the underside is white to cream. The feet and tail are pale cream, the pads are covered with furry bristles, and the ears are very long.
In a drought-season food-patch experiment in the Simpson Desert, both S. hirtipes and S. youngsoni harvested more resources from high-density patches. This is an experimental foraging result, not a complete account of its wild diet.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
