This bushshrike is recorded in a restricted area of northern Angola. Its documented habitat includes secondary forest and forest edges.
Its breast is bright orange, a field clue distinguishing it from the chestnut-breasted Luehder's Bushshrike.
It uses the undergrowth of densely overgrown gallery forest and thickets at clearings. The authors' field records came from secondary forest or forest edge at 600–870 m.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
