The eastern rock elephant shrew is a small mammal with a mobile, slender snout. It forages among rocky outcrops in southern Africa.
Its slender, mobile snout helps it investigate its surroundings and forage. Its hind limbs are strongly developed, and it can hop.
It shelters in rock cracks and crevices and is mainly active by day, with activity also around sunrise and sunset. It mainly catches invertebrates such as ants and termites.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
