This sengi lives in arid parts of southern Africa. It is recorded around rocky ridges and outcrops, mainly in South Africa and Namibia, with a range extending into southwestern Angola and extreme southern Botswana.
The gray-brown back grades into grayer flanks, and the underside is whitish. Its tail is longer than the body and ends in a dark tuft; a 2008 comparison found the tuft more pronounced than in the close relative E. pilicaudus.
A regional assessment places it in arid deserts, dry savannas and shrublands, usually around rocky ridges, outcrops, koppies or boulder fields at mountain bases. Detailed life-history information remains limited.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
