An Andean foothill and subtropical-forest flycatcher from Colombia through Peru. Tail color differs between Andean slopes.
The head and throat are dark gray, with white spots before the eyes and a slight yellow crown stripe; the back is olive, and the rump and belly are yellow. Eastern-slope birds have a rufous tail; western-slope birds have a dusky tail with a rufous or yellow base.
It uses borders of foothill and subtropical forest, occurs in pairs, and catches insects in short sallies.
