This small flycatcher has a strongly streaked breast and variable brown, rufous, and intermediate plumages.
It is about 12.5 cm long and occurs in brown, rufous, and intermediate plumage phases. In Brazil's Pantanal the plumage tends to be brown; elsewhere gray may replace brown. The breast is strongly streaked.
It usually stays out of forest interiors, using edges, scrub, and cerrado. It makes short flights from a perch near vegetation to catch insects and returns to a perch.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
