A large spiny rat from dry forests of southwestern Ecuador and northwestern Peru. Dark hairs mix with its sandy-colored back, while the inner limbs are white.
Adults have a head-and-body length of about 26–30 cm. The back is coarsely grizzled sandy fawn, the sides are grayer, and the inner limbs are white.
It inhabits tropical semi-deciduous forest, but the species account explicitly says its ecology, reproduction, and behavior have not been studied. Activity and diet are therefore left unspecified.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
