This small bird occurs in open, moist highland grassland in East Africa and feeds on invertebrates. A Tanzania field note records nonbreeding plumage and uncertainty about the subspecies.
In a nonbreeding bird observed at Ngorongoro, Tanzania, in July 2013, the crown and back were uniformly streaked and there was no dark lore spot. The observer considered the darker nakuruensis form but noted the site is near a contact zone with paler hindii, leaving the subspecies uncertain.
It uses open, moist highland grassland and feeds on invertebrates. Oiseaux.net lists an altitude band of 1,400–2,300 m.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
