An integrative taxonomic study separated P. albogriseus from P. salvini, which had been included in the broader Black-and-white Becard. This entry concerns P. albogriseus, found on the eastern Andean slope and in montane forests of Costa Rica and Panama.
In the P. albogriseus specimens examined, both sexes had a black patch between the bill and eye and a pale collar at the back of the neck.
The taxonomic paper's summary places this species mainly on the eastern, lower-elevation side of the Andes and in undisturbed humid forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
