The Large-toothed Rat is a poorly known rodent recorded in mountains from South to Southeast Asia. The 2025 IUCN assessment lists it as Least Concern because of its broad range, while noting that population information is limited.
Vietnamese specimens had short, rough, dark gray-brown fur that became paler on the sides and blended into a pale brown underside. The tail was uniformly dark brown.
Records are from upper montane, moist evergreen primary forest above 1,000 m. It is not known whether the rat uses modified forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
