Eumops chimaera was described in 2016 from southeastern Brazil and Bolivia, based on a small set of specimens and localities.
It has a dark face and large rounded blackish ears joined across the crown. The back is dark brown with paler hair bases, and the underside is lighter.
In Brazil, one male was seen flying about 20 m over a lagoon. The authors suggested it may have been attracted to insects near a flashlight.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
