This flying fox is recorded from the southern Philippines and nearby Indonesian islands. HMW reports forest and mangrove habitats and a colony record from Tawi-Tawi.
The ears are described as rounded and broad. The dark morph has a dark brown or black back flecked with grey and orange-yellow to tawny underparts. The light morph is orange-buff overall, with a golden mantle from the neck across the shoulders.
HMW lists forests and mangroves as habitats and reports a tree-roosting colony on Tawi-Tawi. Coconut-palm roosts are also recorded; tolerance of disturbance is presented as a possibility, not a settled general trait.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
