This Panamanian dove is notable for the chestnut back and pale pink breast of the adult male. Its island and mainland populations belong to different subspecies.
An adult male has a gray forehead and head, a chestnut back, a pale pink breast, and a white belly. Females look similar but are duller on the back and breast.
It uses tall forest and wooded swamps, and may forage on the ground in groups of two or three. Little is known about its diet.
