A violet crown and yellow breast band make this fruit dove distinctive. It feeds on fruit in trees and lives in forests across islands from the New Guinea region to the Solomon Islands.
Males have an olive body, violet crown, yellow breast band, and a red-violet belly patch. Females lack the prominent crown and breast band; their belly is green, with yellow at the center and under the tail.
It searches for fruit in trees alone or in pairs. Depending on island size and terrain, it uses montane or lowland forest and, on smaller islands, coastal scrub.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
