This dove occurs only in western Colombia through northwestern Ecuador, in the wet rainforests of the Chocó. Adults show purple, blue, and iridescent colors, with a dark blue stripe across a white face. Females and juveniles are duller than males.
Adults have a purple back and purplish-chestnut wings. The sides of the neck show golden, purple, and bluish-green iridescence; a dark blue stripe divides the white face and throat.
It inhabits the understory and ground strata of primary lowland and montane evergreen forests and spends much of its time on or near the ground.
Females are duller than males, and juveniles are duller still. Juveniles lack a distinct facial pattern and iridescent neck patches.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
