The Julia Creek dunnart lives in cracking-clay grasslands and shelters in soil cracks during dry weather.
It has a dark stripe on its face, gray-to-brown upper fur, and a pale buff belly. Males are reported to be larger than females.
The Queensland survey guide says it shelters in soil cracks by day and is assumed to use vegetation for cover when heavy rain closes the cracks.
