The black-shouldered opossum is a South American marsupial with dark markings from its shoulders down the forelegs and back, and fur over most of its tail. It is active high in the canopy at night.
Gray-brown fur is marked with black from the shoulders down the forelegs. Most of an adult's tail is covered in cream-colored fur, with a short hairless tip.
It is nocturnal, solitary, and arboreal, moving slowly high in the canopy. It has been recorded feeding on South American sapote nectar in the dry season, but its overall diet is poorly known.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
