The water opossum is a marsupial adapted for swimming. It uses webbed hind feet and a long tail to move through water and catch small aquatic animals.
Its coat is gray, white and brown, with a white stripe above the eyes and another beneath the jaw. The hind feet are webbed, and the long tail acts like a rudder while swimming.
It forages near streams and lakes in tropical and subtropical forests, eating mainly crustaceans as well as aquatic insects and frogs. It is mostly nocturnal but may also forage by day.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
