The Large Niltava lives in forests from the southern Himalayan foothills across Southeast Asia. Adult males are black and blue; females are brown with a blue patch on the side of the neck.
The male has a black face and throat, blue crown, rump, and neck patches, and dark blue-violet upperparts. The female is brown with a pale blue patch on each side of the neck.
It moves slowly alone or in pairs through dark, low undergrowth and finds most of its food on the ground, eating insects and berries.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
