This owl is known from Guadalcanal in the southern Solomon Islands. It uses forest edges and lowland or foothill tree patches, but much of its behaviour remains poorly known.
Adults have brown upperparts with white markings, a pale underside with brown barring, white throat and eyebrows, and yellow eyes with an orange or brown tinge.
It occurs in forest and at forest edges, including patches with only a few tall trees, from lowlands into foothills. It is presumed to be mostly nocturnal, but behaviour is poorly known.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
