The pocketed free-tailed bat has a pouch-like fold of skin near the hind legs. It roosts in caves, rock crevices, and buildings in dry country.
A fold of skin stretching from the thigh toward the shin forms a shallow pocket in the tail membrane. The bases of its ears join at the center of the head.
It inhabits semiarid desert and uses caves, cliff crevices, and spaces beneath roof tiles as daytime roosts. Year-round residency has been documented around Big Bend in Texas.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
