Its main reported range is northeastern India and adjacent Myanmar. Southern China is included in some taxonomic treatments.
It has brownish plumage with bright green-gold panels on the wings and sides of the tail. The forehead is greyish, the ear-coverts brown, and the throat dark chestnut.
It uses the understorey and bamboo in broadleaf evergreen forest, as well as mixed forest, secondary growth, and rhododendron scrub. It searches near the ground for insects, berries, seeds, and other plant matter, often in pairs or small groups.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
